SUMMARY:
Responsible for the accounting, reporting, disclosure and analysis of all tax related items
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the preparation and filing of all State, local, and US Federal tax returns for the company in a complete and accurate manner
  • Responsible for the reporting and disclosure of tax related items in the company’s financial statement and external reporting
  • Maintain tax compliance for all legal entities including operating units
  • Research and review emerging and current tax laws and technical tax memorandum to ensure compliance
  • Direct and perform tax planning and research activities
  • Advises management regarding effects of business activities on taxes and on tax strategies
  • Maintain Exposure List and serve as the primary point of contact for all tax related items (i.e. tax positions taken and proposed, audits, audit findings and potential findings)
  • Supervise external tax professionals to meet filing and planning requirements on state and local sales and use taxes, Business and Occupation taxes (B&O), State Income Tax Returns, and US Federal Income Tax Returns
  • Ensure that organization complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting, and other taxing authority requirements
  • Represent organization before taxing bodies
  • Organize and maintain tax records and conduct tax studies and special projects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and at least six (6) years tax related experience, international and domestic; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's degree (MBA) and/or Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Sound command of appropriate regulations, laws and protocols, including Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and tax laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of and ability to communicate issues of economics, accounting and finance to facilitate and aid decision making
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written form
  • Experience in managing a small team
  • Skilled in managing budgets and monitoring expenditures against them, both on an on-going and project basis
  • Demonstrates initiative and skill at developing improvements in systems, practices, processes and tools to drive performance improvement in the assigned area
  • Takes personal responsibility for the performance of the assigned area
  • Challenges self and others to choose the most practical approach and seek out improvements
  • Budget responsibility for external tax consultants
