Under the direction of the CFO, the Staff Accountant is responsible for all accounts payable, payroll processing, and assisting with general ledger functions. The Staff Accountant also performs extensive account analysis, reconciliation, and reporting functions and administers the approved general accounting policies and procedures throughout the organization to ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the organization and provide management with the necessary information to control operations.
Required:
Associate’s Degree in Accounting
Minimum 2 years experience in an accounting office
Demonstrated ability in accounting systems and MS Office
Knowledge and experience in budgeting and fiscal management
Strong communication and analytical skills
Demonstrated proficiency with 10-key and advanced Excel
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Basic understanding of the nature of the organization as a membership-based nonprofit
Bilingual – English/Spanish
Fiscal Management: Assist in budgeting work; manage branch expenses and revenue.
Program Development: Support membership and program revenue/expense governance.
Supervision / Staff Development: Assist in enhancing staff fiscal management skills.
Financial Development: Participate in the organization’s campaigns such as Strong Kids and United Way.
Volunteer Development: Support the CFO in engaging volunteers from the Board of Directors in financial development work.
Safety / Risk Management: Ensure maintenance, cleanliness, and compliance with safety policies.
Quality: Uphold quality standards in financial development and communications/marketing.
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel between branches, sit at a computer for extended periods, communicate clearly, and demonstrate sound judgment in a variety of situations.
Operations: Meet deadlines, attend meetings/trainings, and lead special projects as assigned.
