Education: Minimum qualification for this position is a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and have a valid secondary principal certification.
 
Experience: Three years’ experience working as a principal or assistant principal

Description: The Secondary Principal serves as the primary educational leader for the academic policies and programs for students of grades 6-12.  This position is responsible for the implementation of an innovative and supportive learning environment with high academic standards while leading a team of faculty and support personnel towards the fulfillment of the school’s mission and vision. The qualified candidate must be able to demonstrate high energy, inspirational leadership, strong student connection, integrity and the fruit of a wholesome Biblical lifestyle.  
 
Essential Functions:
  • Serves as an active member of the Academic Team, in coordination with the Headmaster, to manage and assess the academic direction of the school and the assessment of student progress.
  • Works with pertinent administrators and department chairs in the support and development of individual departments to evaluate curriculum, course offerings, and student matriculation.
  • Works with the Assistant Secondary Principal to develop professional development programs and opportunities that supports Metro’s vision for creativity, excellence and student engagement and achievement.
  • Assures the development of an overall learning environment that promotes faith formation, ethical decision making, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by all students.
  • Coordinates master class schedule of class time and specials including lunch and cafeteria schedules.
  • Supervises secondary teachers and submits regularly scheduled evaluations and recommendations to the Headmaster.
  • Coordinates interviews and oversees hiring of teachers and counselors in Grades 6-12.
  • Coordinates with local colleges and universities on placement of student teachers and interns.
  • Establishes strong relational connections with students through visibility and involvement in activities and classes; confers with students when requested to do so by a teacher, parent, student, or counselor.
  • Develops a consistent and predictable system for communication with parents.  Encourages strong communication from teachers to parents.
  • Assures the consistent application of disciplinary policies and resolves serious disciplinary issues that cannot be resolved by teachers, counselors, or Dean of Students in a manner that is consistent with Christian values and sensitive to the developmental stages of adolescents. 
  • Schedules and leads regular faculty meetings for grades 6-12.
  • Supervises extra-curricular activities and attends as needed for supervision.
  • Works with the finance office in the preparation and administration of the High School and Middle School teaching supply and curriculum budgets.
  • Oversees maintaining a yearly inventory of all instructional equipment and materials.

  • Knowledge of methods and principles for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individual groups and the measurement of training effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate advanced written, verbal, and listening skills; excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to use data in the decision-making process.
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in a school environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the position.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to students and surroundings.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Ability to work with others, develop and support a team environment, and display good interpersonal skills.
