JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation and is responsible for the effective overall management of TARC’s services, programs and activities, in keeping with the organization’s mission and the policies and direction of the Board of Directors.
 
Working with, and under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director shall have the following responsibilities:
  1. Provide overall leadership regarding interpretation of TARC’s mission, strategic direction and organization.
  2. Attend regular meetings of the Board of Directors as a non-voting member, and provide regular reports of his/her, and the organization’s, activities and status.
  3. Initiate and oversee strategic and long-range planning activities, and take steps to implement or pursue programs, goals or initiatives defined by those planning activities.
  4. Represent TARC and its constituencies to community groups, funding sources and policymakers at the local, state and national levels.
  5. Carry out a program of public relations, in support of the organization’s mission and strategic plans.
  6. Serve as a primary representative of TARC for fundraising and Board development.
  7. Ensure the integrity of TARC’s financial systems and manage the corporation so as to promote its ongoing fiscal viability.
  8. Develop and implement an appropriate internal structure including such areas as personnel, supervision, accountability and day-to-day operations.
 
Desired qualifications and experience
  1. Must be knowledgeable of characteristics, needs and issues of or relating to individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families or care providers
  2. College degree in a related field of study – advanced degree preferred
  3. Familiarity with policymaking government bodies and process
  4. Familiarity with public policy, especially regarding systems of care and education for persons with developmental disabilities
  5. Familiarity with non-profit sector operations as demonstrated by experience in the field, and preferably in a similar or related type of organization
  6. Familiarity with the role as demonstrated by years of experience in either an Executive Director or senior-level management position, preferably in a similar or related type of organization
  7. Ability to effectively lead and manage an organization as evidenced by specific experience  in prior positions and corroborated by other individuals suggested as references
