Position Summary 

The Operational Controller is a key member of the operations and finance team, responsible for providing continuous support to the divisions, regional leadership teams, and project accountants. This includes responsibilities for financial reporting including the monthly closing process, implementation of corporate accounting policies, and solid understanding of US GAAP, balance sheet analysis, account reconciliations, and ensure appropriate systems/processes are in place to support the continued expansion of the business. In addition, this individual will be responsible for a significant amount of internal management and internal reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate must ensure data integrity at all time and possess an ability to identify, articulate, and incorporate process improvements. 

General Responsibilities 
  • Act as primary liaison between finance and operation in assigned functional areas
  • Responsible for monthly close activities for assigned divisions and regions, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. 
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting and analysis using both established and ad-hoc reports to drill down by GL account, customer and project level to explain performance.
  • Develop and maintain tools/reports to assist in forecasting operational results. 
  • Partner with operational leaders to develop annual budgets. 
  • Identify opportunities to help operational leaders meet operating budget and drive business strategies. 
  • Consolidate monthly process metrics, dashboards and scorecards. 
  • Support the preparation of financial data and information to be presented or discussed with division and corporate management. 
  • Assess reporting problems, recommend effective solutions, and execute on process improvements. 
  • Remain current with new accounting technical standards impacting financial reporting. Maintain accounting policies and procedures and ensure accurate and thorough documentation of them. Work with the accounting team to research and resolve technical accounting issues. 
  • Work with IT to develop and maintain the systems and procedures required to continually monitor and report on the financial performance of the division/corporation, in compliance with internal controls, corporate policies and procedures. 
  • Participate in due diligence activities for prospective acquisitions, and participate in integrating acquisitions made as it pertains to specialty services. 
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and all other duties as needed.

  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access skills. 
  • Proven experience collaborating successfully with leaders in other disciplines and organizations. 
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and work independently as well as with virtual team members. 

Education and Work Experience 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA highly preferred. 
  • 5+ years of exceptional knowledge and ability to elaborate, analyze and process financial statement, forecast, month end close, budget, cash flow, KPI, dashboard, etc. 
  • Experience automating complex reports in Excel highly preferred. 
  • Costing accounting (job cost and/or POC) preferred
  • Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized. 
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated. 
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
