As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Controller will report to the COO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the organization. The Controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, and strategic planning. Responsible for working alongside executive leadership team to implement fiscal strategic planning, financial forecasting, and establishing a sound financial vision for organizational sustainability. 

The Controller will have at least 5 years of experience managing the finance and accounting functions; including fund accounting, financial reporting, cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable, insurance and investments; of a $10+ million organization or business unit. Must possess strong human relations skills to communicate and work within a diverse work environment and community. Nonprofit experience is desired.  
Accounting and Finances
  • Management of a computerized accounting system to ensure that financial operation systems and controls are in place and functioning properly to handle the accounting, budgeting, and cash management and audit functions of the organization. Responsible for providing financial statements, reports and analyses of the organization's financial position.
  • Manages the organization's investments and cash position, according to policy, in a manner which assures maximum and prudent financial return of the reserve funds and maximum interest on the operating funds.
  • Develops financial and operational strategy by evaluating trends. Establishes critical financial metrics, identifies areas of improvement and resolves problems and implements change as needed.
  • Coordinates and prepares the organization's annual budget, working closely with members of the leadership team and department managers.
  • Develops fiscal projections based on estimates of income and expenditures, anticipated organizational programs, long-range plans and other factors.
  • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Ensure credibility of Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Take hands-on lead position of developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive short and long range financial planning.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities. Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Tax Exempt and Legal Issues
  • Responds to member questions regarding 501(c)(3) exempt status and related regulations, preparation of 990 Forms, fund-raising activities, insurance, chapter financial planning and record retention.
  • Serves as staff liaison to committees and strategic planning work groups as assigned.
  • Prepares for and attends regularly scheduled meeting of assigned committees and strategic planning work groups and ensures that resulting assignments from these meetings are completed.
  • Supervises the activities of the following personnel:
  • Accounting Coordinator
  • Interviews and hires potential employees for the department.
  • Performs personnel-related functions, including performance and salary reviews.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with degree in finance, business or accounting. CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in management position, preferably in nonprofit management.
