The Materials Manager/Cost Accountant procures steel and ensures accurate inventory counts and valuation in the manufacturing ERP system.
Review jobs created by the ERP system when a customer order is entered
ensure proper treatment of inventory, and
order material needed according to specifications
Determine the amount of steel plate required to complete job orders applying knowledge of steel, product, and manufacturing processes.
Requisition material with established delivery dates according to job order priorities and material availability.
Verify that steel received conforms to specifications and matches related reports
Identify overdue purchases and expedite accordingly.
Update ERP system data to reflect purchase orders, delivery times, stock levels, MOQ's, safety stock levels, and certification documents.
Ensure the company's ERP system accurately reflects inventory levels for both plate steel and tank head stock inventory:
Develop deep expertise in Shoptech E2 software. Drive standards and educate others to optimize the utility of the system. Establish and document best practices and standards for maintaining an accurate inventory system, both in counts and valuation.
Oversee cycle counts to maintain control over inventories and to validate and troubleshoot the ERP system.
Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
At least five years relevant experience in cost accounting, purchasing, and other related areas
Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, ethics, and professionalism when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers
Ability to multi-task and prioritize several critical actions throughout the workday
Ability to quickly collect and analyze critical pieces of data in a timely and efficient manner
Proficient in ERP software with exposure to material requirements planning
Uses data to analyze and construct recommendations
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Protracted periods of verbal conversation via phone or in-person to communicate orally with internal staff and vendors.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally.
Occasionally travel to vendor or customer sites, trade shows, conferences, or other meetings as required.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. (Lunch 12-1)
